Evaluation and Team Draft Process
Under the BBA rules of competition, all players must attend an evaluation session. It is important to note that evaluations are not tryouts. The purpose of the evaluation is to have an independent panel of evaluators, who are not coaches in the Division being evaluated, rate the players on various skills and how they perform in a scrimmage setting. The player ratings are averaged by taking the mean of all evaluators on the panel resulting in a one number rating for a particular player. We use these numbers to effectively draft fair and balanced teams.
One of the many fun aspects of being a Head Coach in the BBA is the draft night. Head Coaches are invited to attend the evaluations in order to get a look at all prospective draft picks. They are encouraged to make notes and rate the players themselves. Then, similar to a Fantasy Sports Draft, they use their own player notes and ratings against the leagues ratings to strategize against the other coaches and put their scouting skills to the test!!!
The end result are some very evenly matched teams that every Saturday create some excitingly close contests!
